What does the band do?
The Simon Fraser University Pipe Band is a multi-band, multi-program organization dedicated to the highest level of musicianship and performance for pipe band musicians of all ages. A particular focus of the organization has been to foster excellence in young pipers and drummers through our Robert Malcolm Memorial Pipe Band. The results have been spectacular: four World Pipe Band Championships (and 6 second-place finishes), 3 World Juvenile Pipe Band Championships, and 2nd place in Grade 2 at the 2002 and 2004 World Championships. The SFU Pipe Band has also developed a number of young players who have made their mark on the solo scene. |
Why should I make a donation?
There are a number of reasons why a tax-deductible donation makes sense. Of course, we all want to pay a little less tax, and at the same time, it's great to be able to make a donation to to support organizations that do good work. Your donation to the SFU Pipe Band will support the ongoing work of developing excellence in young players, and in furthering the development of pipe bands and pipe band music. |
Who will benefit from my donation?
Benefactors from all over the world can be assured that the donations they make support the work of the SFU Pipe Band and its youth organization. What you might not know is that many young players come to SFU from afar hone their skills and play with the best. The SFU Pipe Band organization has made a place for pipers from all across Canada: Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and BC. From the USA, we have had players from Washington, Oregon, Florida, California, Masschusetts, and New York, and we have also had young players from Ireland, Scotland, and Denmark. Your donations help to support the development of great piping in many parts of the world. At this time, many pipe bands are run by SFU Pipe Band alumni who developed skills in SFU. These include: The City of Regina Pipe Band (Saskatchewan), The Saffron United Pipe Band (New York), The Dunedin Scottish (Florida), and The Glengarry Pipe Band (Ontario). Significant contributions are also being made by SFU alumni to: Alberta Caledonia, The LA Scots, The LA Police Department, and The Metro Toronto Police.
